Lan Chai He accidentally ate divine fruit and is usually portrayed as ragged unkempt street person being with one foot bare, carrying castanets and a string of cash.
Carrying a basket of flowers and plants, Lan is associated with light-heartiness, care-free mind and longevity. As such the plants in the basket are of this nature, comprising of peach blossoms, springs of prine, bamboo shoots and chrysanthemum flowers.
Mount is an elephant.
Associated with the Trigram Chien of the Bagua. Chien, a yang metal trigram relates to the direction North West, and is represented by the color Gold. Chien is often associated with the creativity and strength, and often seen as creative, lively and imaginative.

He was born around 900 A.D. and was believed to be the strangest of all the Immortals. No one really knew if effeminate Lan was a woman or a man. Some believe that he/she was a young tom-boyish girl. At the age of 14, he or she accidentally ate a divine fruit and turned immortal. In the Eight Immortals fighting system, she represented the element of youth and limberness (like an elastic man). The famous "Cotton Fist" Mien Chien of the later date was derived from Lan's fighting system.
